Yet another reason for 30 Rock’s awesomeness was shown in this show, its ability to contain all types of humour. This week we had topical and political comedy as well as some excellent character and those random surreal moments. The return of Dennis was brilliant to watch. He was such an odious character the first time round and to bring him back without making him completely and instantly hateful was quite a feat, but of course we still desperately wanted Liz to escape him.
Tracy and Jack had some great moments as well, and the Studio 60 piss take of the old writer coming back to visit was fantastic, as he became increasingly weird and offensive. I love that he and Kenneth still managed to bond over a shared love of TV though. It always makes me happy to see that the characters in this show love TV in the same way I do, even when it’s as awful as MILF Island.
The small touches given to background characters are always nice in 30 Rock as well. Jonathan is a great example of this normally, but I felt that Dotcom’s little moment in this show was perfect. I hope that they can keep this up without it getting increasingly silly, as that seems to be the main danger of a sitcom. For now though 30 Rock is as funny as anything on TV.
